Happy New Year! I know we’re almost at the end of January but wow, January…
A Peek into my Squarespace Process
The number one question that prospective website clients ask me is about my website building process. To give you all a little insight, I thought I’d lay it all out here!
First and foremost, I exclusively build my client sites on Squarespace. This is for a few different reasons:
- User-friendliness: I love empowering my clients to be able to easily update their websites. This is the number one reason I build on Squarespace. The backend is super intuitive, minimal, and requires no code knowledge!
- It’s a one-stop shop: Squarespace plans include hosting and domain registration, which means you know where all of your web accounts are and are never surprised with domain and hosting renewal fees!
- Efficiency: Squarespace keeps me efficient in that I’m spending less time working on complicated IT issues that so often arise with WordPress sites, so that I can spend time doing what I do best: designing the best website for you!
- Expertise: Dedicating myself to one web platform allows me to be more proficient and knowledgeable about that platform.
If you’re interested in building a new site or importing your current site to Squarespace, here’s what you can expect when you choose to work with me:
Step 1:
Discovery Call
Our free discovery call is where I get to know you, your business, your audience(s), and learn about the goals and objectives that you have for your website. This is where we discuss the scope of the project, budgets, timelines, and process.
I’ll also ask to see examples of websites that you both do and don’t like. This step is immensely helpful in learning about what you’re looking for in your website!
Step 2:
Proposal + Deposit
Once our discovery call is over, I’ll send a recap email just to make sure I’ve captured everything we discussed correctly and get to work on creating a proposal for your project! I’ll outline the project goals along with some high-level recommendations. You’ll see what’s included with your site (along with what’s not), the cost of the project, and a proposed timeline. If this all looks good, you’ll sign the contract and send it back along with a deposit.
Step 3:
Google Drive Setup + Content Worksheet
Once you’re officially signed on as a client, I’ll set up a Google Drive folder for you to add your content (images, videos, graphics, text), along with a content worksheet customized to your site to help you and your team (if applicable) write the copy. If you are redesigning an existing site, I can assist with facilitating a content audit as well!
Step 4:
Site Build
Once all of your content is gathered and the copy is finalized I’ll get to work building your site! Turnaround times vary with the size and complexity of the site, averaging about two weeks.
Step 5:
Initial Round Presentation
When the site build is completed, I’ll present it to you via zoom! This will be a high-level overview of your site, immediate feedback is not required. I’ll invite you to take a few days to review the site on multiple devices and provide feedback within a week’s time.
Step 5:
Client edits
Once feedback is received, I’ll go ahead and make the requested edits and email you to review. There are two edit rounds included, however if more rounds can be added if required.
Step 6:
Client Approval
When all of the edits are completed and the site is to your liking, you’ll send me your final approval! I’ll send you an email detailing next steps and schedule your tutorial.
Step 7:
1-Hour Client Tutorial
Every client receives a 1-hour tutorial on your site via zoom. We’ll go over how to make basic updates, best practices, and walk through Squarespace’s backend together. This tutorial will be recorded so you can go back and reference it at any time.
Step 8:
Your website launches!
Once final payment is received, I’ll transfer ownership of the site to you and walk you through the steps to launch. Congratulations, your site is live!!
